Pupils do exceptionally well at this school, in terms of both their academic and personal development.

Leaders, including governors, are relentless in their ambition to make this school the best it can be.

The behaviour of pupils is outstanding. Pupils have excellent attitudes to learning. They work hard at all times and persevere with tasks that are frequently challenging.

The warm, mutually supportive relationships that staff and pupils have with each other make this a very caring, nurturing school.

Provision in the Early Years is outstanding. Children make rapid and sustained progress due to excellent teaching and imaginative activities.

The curriculum is excellent. It promotes a real love for learning in pupils, as they have many opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills within a real-life context.

Years 5 & 6

Literacy

In Years 5 & 6 we put books at the heart of our learning in literacy and use them to inspire our class topics.  Through our topics we will be reading: fiction books, recounts that tell historical stories, biographies that explore journeys and poems that evoke emotions.

We will give the children opportunities to immerse themselves in books and to write in role, exploring ideas through drama and talk.  We will teach different writing styles and give the children the chance to develop independent thinking as they choose how to present their ideas by creating their own books, web sites or displays.

Maths

In maths we will continue to build upon the children’s knowledge and give them the opportunities to become confident mathematicians. We will focus on developing key number skills and facts and show them how these can be applied to more complex problems. We will teach methods they can use with confidence and understanding.  When a child leaves Yr 6 we want to be sure that they have a tool box of good maths skills they can understand, develop and apply.

Our topics for Cycle 1 are:

Y5 All the world’s a stage; Journey into the unknown; Odyssey

Y6 All the world’s a stage; Journey into the unknown; Odyssey

Our topics for Cycle 2 are:
