PSHE/RHSE
At Merton Park, we believe that PSHE/RHSE is fundamental to the development of the individual potential of all our children. We consider it to be crucial to our children's development as responsible, confident and considerate people. We place great importance on helping children to develop attitudes of respect, consideration, a sense of community and, vitally, a sense of self-worth and esteem.
We use scheme designed by the PSHE Association who specialise in the PSHE curriculum. It allows for progression and aims to prepare children for life, helping them really know and value who they are and understand how they relate to others in this ever-changing world.
At Merton Park we use the scheme to facilitate our strong focus on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health.
In PSHE/RHSE we want children to:
- be healthy, independent, resilient and responsible members of the school community and wider society.
- respect the feelings and opinions of others and be able to understand and communicate their own.
- understand that everyone has both rights and responsibilities.
- develop a sense of self worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.
- tackle moral and social issues which are part of growing up.
- value and celebrate the diverse society and world in which we live
- respect and celebrate our differences. • Know when and how to seek advice.
- recognise the characteristics of positive relationships.
- understand the concept of personal privacy and boundaries.
- know what is appropriate and safe verbal and physical behaviour.
- be equipped with a sound understanding of risk and the knowledge and skills to make safe and informed decisions.
- have an age-appropriate understanding of relationships, sex, the human body and how it changes.
- know what is meant by mental and physical health and be able to use strategies to support both
